Gilgil Town Secondary was started in the year 2013 with the initial enrolment of 35 students. The need to have a secondary school at Gilgil D.E.B Primary was because of the following reasons:
1. Due to the introduction of free primary education by the Government of Kenya in 2003, Gilgil D.E.B Primary had increased the number of pupils, hence leading to a big number of pupils not accessing secondary school education.
2. Financial status of parents hinders them from taking their children to boarding schools.
3. Gilgil D.E.B Primary school had 12 acres out of which the some could be utilized for secondary school development.
It is a mixed sub-county public day school located in Gilgil Town ,Nakuru County. The school has 7 acres of land donated by the primary section. The school is situated in an urban setting with most parents/guardians relying on small –scale businesses and casual jobs mainly in the flower farms and informal sector.
Majority of them hail from poor social and economic background such as the urban area like Bondeni and Kambi-Somali just to mention a few.
Currently the school is single-Streamed with students’ population of 200 students. There are 5 teachers posted to the school by the Teachers Service Commission (TSC) and the other 2 employed by the school’s board of Management (BOM)
